Published on: 28 August 2025
As Malaysia marks its 68th National Day this year, we celebrate not only our nation’s enduring spirit but also Mahajaya’s transformative legacy, from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru, where visionary developments have shaped communities and grown alongside the country’s progress.

Founded in the 1970s by Dato’ Tan Leong Min, Mahajaya has long upheld a people-first philosophy, creating sustainable lifestyle projects that balance modern aesthetics with practicality across three generations. From the urban enclaves of Bangsar and Desa Petaling to the heartlands of Melaka, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan, Mahajaya’s footprint is woven into the fabric of Malaysia.
Milestones Across Malaysia: Building More Than Structures
Over the decades, Mahajaya’s development journey paints a powerful narrative of ambition, innovation, and community-building. The company’s earliest milestone was the Bangsar Heights Condominium in Kuala Lumpur in 1984, setting a precedent for residential excellence.
In the 1990s, a wave of thoughtfully designed housing in Desa Petaling followed, including the low-cost apartments (1990), Pangsaria Apartment (1994), Sri Lata Condominium (1995), Winner Court B (1995), Flexi Shop (1995), Winner Heights (1996), Vantage Points (1998), and Winner Court A (1999), showcasing Mahajaya’s commitment to inclusive urban living.
Expanding Beyond the Klang Valley
Mid‑1990s expansion took Mahajaya to historic Kota Laksamana in Melaka, where it delivered the Tengkera Utama Apartment and a five-storey shop apartment, both in 1995. At around the same time, its developments in Cheras, Taman Cheras Utama and Bandar Damai Perdana, gained momentum with link houses and Phase 1A homes in 1996, laying the groundwork for an ever-evolving township.
This regional initiative continued with projects in Port Dickson, PD Centre Point shop offices in 1996 and a shop apartment by 1999, and in Johor Bahru with Taman Tan Sri Yaacob’s shop offices in 1998.
Building the New Millenium Communities
Entering the year 2000’s, Mahajaya enriched Cheras further with Taman Cheras Utama’s 3-storey shop offices and Ketumbar Heights (2002) and Ketumbar Hill (2004). Parallelly, Desa Petaling welcomed the iconic Amadesa Resort Condominium in 2003, a Bali-inspired sanctuary woven into the cityscape.
The project was a huge success and garner positive feedback from the buyers, as the then lead architect-in-charge for the project, Ar. Lee Keng Yew once remarked: “Amadesa Condo stands as a testament to our belief that architecture should evoke memory and place, it isn’t just homes, but an everyday retreat shaped by beauty, community, and belonging.” This encapsulates the ethos that elevates Mahajaya’s work beyond concrete and steel.
Creating One Community at A Time
Fast-forward to year 2010, U’ Center Point in Puchong offered new commercial spaces, while Bandar Damai Perdana thrived with a succession of residential clusters: D’ Eleganza, D’ Majestica, D’ Regency, D’ Exotica, D’ Infiniti I, Damai Gayana (including bungalows), D’ Square shoplexes, and two phases of D’ Premier homes between 2010 and 2016.
Expansion continued with link houses in Taman Sutera Lama, Port Dickson (2011), Shah Alam’s Taman Alam Indah (2014–2016), and in 2017, Residensi Gembira 33 in Kuchai Lama. More recently, Bandar Damai Perdana welcomed D’ Infiniti II townhouse phases in 2019, followed by the residential gem 118 Residence in Puchong’s Taman Damai Utama in 2021, and The Courtyard @ Cheras in 2024, affirming Mahajaya’s unwavering dedication to evolving, dynamic communities.
55 Years Journey of Building Homes and Communities
Reflecting on this remarkable journey, Henry Tan, Project Director, shares: “Looking back on five decades of establishing Mahajaya, I feel both humbled and inspired, humbled by the trust communities have placed in us, and inspired by the chance to shape neighbourhoods that stand the test of time.” His sentiment echoes the depth of Mahajaya’s mission to build more than structures but homes with heart.
On this 68th National Day of Malaysia, Mahajaya’s developments are more than real estate, they are the expression of a nation’s journey, built one thoughtful project at a time. From Bangsar and Desa Petaling to Cheras, Puchong, Melaka, Port Dickson, Johor Bahru, Shah Alam, Kuchai Lama, and beyond, each development reflects a chapter of Malaysia’s growth.
Together, we celebrate not just Malaysia’s milestones but the enduring spirit of home, community, and the promise of tomorrow. From Mahajaya, building futures and building the heart of a nation.
