A Zen-Inspired Home: Inside 118 Residence with the Goh Family
Tucked in a peaceful neighbourhood, 118 Residence is more than just a house, it’s a thoughtfully designed, peaceful retreat. For the Goh family, long-time residents of the area, it was the perfect place to start a new chapter. We spoke with Mr and Mrs Goh about how they turned their new home into a calm, minimalist space and why they chose Mahajaya.
Having spent nearly a decade in the neighbouring estate, the Gohs were no strangers to the area. When it came time to downsize from their semi-detached home, they weren’t looking for less, just something more practical for their family of three.
“We didn’t see it as a downgrade,” said Mr Goh. “It was more about maximising the space we actually use. This home is just right, spacious, yet easy to maintain.”
One of the standout features for the couple was the clever layout. “Many visitors are surprised by how roomy it feels,” he added. “It’s all down to the smart design.”
Designed with Intention: A Home that Reflects Their Lifestyle
The Gohs moved into 118 Residence in March with a clear vision in mind. “We were aiming for a very zen, Muji-inspired aesthetic,” shared Mrs Goh. To bring this vision to life, they enlisted The Makeover Guys, who delivered a harmonious blend of simplicity, warmth, and functionality.
With custom carpentry throughout and thoughtful space planning, they made the most of the 22-by-75-foot layout. Key changes included an extended dining area, a dedicated AV room, and a stylish coffee bar island, perfect for laid-back entertaining. They even added a laundry room upstairs to streamline daily routines.
Calm, Connected Spaces
“We didn’t want the AV room to be part of the living hall,” said Mrs Goh. “So we created a space adjacent to the dining area, it allows us to enjoy meals while watching TV, which works perfectly for our daughter’s after-school downtime.”
Her favourite spot? “The living hall. It’s cosy, quiet and just really relaxing.”
The dining area, positioned at the rear of the house, adds to the sense of privacy and intimacy. “It’s a little tucked away, which makes it great for family meals and entertaining guests.”
At One with Nature
The surrounding environment played a big part in their decision. Backed onto the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve, 118 Residence offers fresh air, tranquil views, and a welcome break from the hustle and bustle.
“The air quality here is excellent, and it’s wonderfully quiet, not overdeveloped,” the couple said. Yet despite its peaceful setting, the location is still close to local eateries and essential amenities. “It’s the best of both worlds.”
“We’ve lived in this area for more than ten years,” Mrs Goh reflected. “There’s a real sense of belonging here.”
The Mahajaya Experience: Comfort, Quality & Community
Although this was their first time buying a Mahajaya home, the experience left a positive impression. “The layout is spot on,” said Mrs Goh. “And visitors often comment on how spacious it feels compared to other homes with the same footprint.”
They were also pleased with the quality of the build. “We were pleasantly surprised, the defects were minimal.” While they noted that landscaping and community engagement could be enhanced, they praised the overall service provided by the Mahajaya team.
Their advice to prospective buyers? “Go for it, it’s worth every penny.”
